Pyramid Saimeera alleged that Kamal Haasan owes the company around Rs 10 crores. The payment was made to the actor for his participation in a movie that was to be produced by the company.

Marmayogi, the project in question, was launched in 2008 and then shelved.

The petitioner said that the company signed a MoU with Raajkamal Films International Private Limited for the project. They alleged that Kamal Haasan did not show any interest in starting work on the movie and has instead diverted the funds for his Unnaipol Oruvan. An amount of Rs 10.9 crores was paid in two installments to Raajkamal.

“Around Rs 6.9 crores was paid towards the film’s pre-production work. Rs 4 crores was determined as Kamal’s salary for acting, writing the screenplay for the film,” a spokesperson for the production company told Silverscreen.

The money was never repaid.

Pyramid Saimeera pursued the case during the release of Unnaipol Oruvan and succeeded in getting a bank guarantee from the actor. The suit is still pending before the court.

Pyramid Saimeera is now reportedly seeking Rs 5.44 crores from the actor. If he fails to do so, his Viswaroopam 2 should not be allowed to release, according to the company’s plea.

They also alleged that Kamal owes a huge sum of money to a lot of creditors.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Kamal said that due process will be followed while pursuing the case. And this process restrains the actor from commenting on the matter. They remain confident that the law suit will not be a hindrance to the movie’s planned release date of August 10.

“Efforts are on to ensure that the court case is wrapped up by then,” he added.

Earlier this week, a complaint was filed against the actor for allegedly defaming late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
