Director Vasanthabalan, at the audio launch of the movie ‘Merlin’, said that directors should make movies with a sense of civic responsibility.
“We live in such horrid times that women are killed for not reciprocating a man’s love. The situation is such that we need to be responsible as directors,” he said. He also expressed his sorrow over the death of late lyricist Na.Muthukumar.
Vasanthabalan, who has made films like Veyil, Angadi Theru and Kaaviya Thailavan, is currently working on an action film.

Pa.Ranjith, who was also present at the event, shared similar thoughts. There are times when a movie revolutionises the society, he said. “When Parashakthi was released, it refashioned the society at that time. Similarly, many recent movies like Kakka Muttai and Joker dealt with important social issues.”
Directed by Keira, Merlin has actor Vishnu Priyan playing the lead role. Thankar Bachan, Manobala, Attakathi Dinesh, Lollu sabha, Jeeva and Aadukalam Murugados play supporting roles in the film which is a horror-thriller. Watch the teaser of the movie here.
