Malayalam Director Rajesh Pillai Passes Away

Noted Malayalam film maker Rajesh Pillai passed away in PVS hospital in Kochi on Saturday. The director had been undergoing treatment for liver cirrhosis for quite sometime now. He had to be hospitalised several times during the shoot of his last film, Vettah, which hit the theatres on Friday. During the film’s post-production, he was diagnosed with pneumonia, which worsened on Friday.

Vettah, starring Manju Warrier, Kunchakko Boban and Indrajith, is a psychological thriller. The film is getting positive reviews from all over.

Pillai has directed four movies in his career that began in 2005 with Hridayathil Sookshikkan, starring Kunchakko Boban and Bhavana. He made his second movie, Traffic, six years later. The movie, which was told in a hyper-link format, was a blockbuster, and is regarded as the pioneer of the Malayalam new generation wave. His third film, Mili, starring Amala Paul, was an average hit.
