Malayalam thriller Muddy is gearing up for a theatrical release, post the Centre’s directive on reopening cinema halls and theatres with reduced seating capacity.
Said to be the first Indian film on off-road mud race, it is directed by debutant Dr. Pragabhal, and features newcomers like Yuvan, Ridhaan Krishna and Anusha Suresh alongside Renji Panicker, IM Vijayan, Hareesh Peradi, Sobha Mohan, and others.
Th film was set to release on April 17, which was delayed because of the Covid-19-related lockdown. Produced by Prema Krishnadas’s PK7 Creations, the film is in its final stages of production and will have a multilingual release.
The teaser was launched by Mammootty on February 11.
According to The Times of India, the film was shot over five years as there were no references for the team to fall back on. The actors were reportedly trained for two years and performed the stunts without any body doubles. “The greatest challenge before me was introducing a sport like mud racing to the viewers without losing its thrill and punch,” Pragabhal said.
The film’s technical crew comprises music director Ravi Basur of KGF fame, editor San Lokesh of Ratsasan fame, and cinematographer KG Ratheesh.
Muddy is among the several films that are either half way through the shoot or are stuck in their post-production stage. Until August 2020, 44 Malayalam films were on hold with over Rs. 360 crore at stake. Big banner films have a production cost of Rs. 100 crore and more. The Malayalam industry produces around 150 films annually.
