“I have acquired the rights to remake One in all Indian languages. The cast and crew for these will be announced later,” Kapoor said.

Directed by Santhosh Viswanath and written by Kerala State Award-winning screenwriter duo Bobby and Sanjay, One was released in theatres on March 26 and is currently streaming on Netflix.

Aside from Mammootty, the film’s cast includes Murali Gopy, Joju George, Siddique, Mathew Thomas, Ishaani Krishna, Gayatri Arun and Nimisha Sajayan.

One is a political drama that deals with the Right to Recall, which allows Indian citizens to remove or replace those holding certain government posts. According to IMDB, the film tells the story of “Kadakkal Chandran, the Chief Minister of Kerala whose uncompromising attitude towards corruption and his dictatorial actions has gained him a lot of enemies. The events get more intense when he faces an allegation.”

This is the second Malayalam film that Kapoor is planning to remake. He earlier acquired the remake rights of the National Award-winning Malayalam film Helen (2019). His daughter Janhvi Kapoor is slated to play the titular role in the survival thriller.

Kapoor debuted as a producer in South Indian cinema with Nerkonda Paarvai, the Tamil remake of his Hindi film Pink. Directed by H Vinoth, the film starred Ajith Kumar, Shraddha Srinath, Abhirami Venkatachalam and Andrea Tariang. The producer is collaborating with Ajith Kumar and H Vinoth once again on the upcoming Tamil film Valimai.

In 2021, Kapoor produced the Telugu remake of Pink, titled Vakeel Saab, starring Pawan Kalyan, Nivetha ThomasAnjali and Ananya Nagalla.
