Manmarziyaan Trailer: Anurag Kashyap’s Film Is About A Love Triangle & Complicated Relationships

It is as though Vicky Kaushal is everywhere. This year, he played pivotal roles in two Netflix India originals (Love Per Square Foot and Lust Stories) and two major Bollywood blockbusters (Raazi and Sanju). In Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film Manmarziyaan, a romantic-drama centered on three youngsters, he is Vicky, a naive Punjabi man head over heels in love with Rumi (Taapsee Pannu), a fiesty young woman.

The trailer of the film was released today, and going by the tone of it, Manmarziyaan is way different from the films Kashyap has attempted so far. Set in crammed spaces in a small-town, the film is a take on modern day relationships and the way millennials perceive love and marriage. The film comes with a tagline: “Love isn’t complicated, people are.”

The trailer juxtaposes the intense, uninhibited and loud relationship of Rumi and Vicky against the calm and no-nonsense demeanour of Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan), the man whom her family finds for her. The arrival of Robbie complicates the relationship of Vicky and Rumi who has to chose between two men and two kinds of future. The dialogues are witty, and Amit Trivedi’s background score is riveting. Jointly produced by Aanand L Rai and Kashyap’s Phantom Productions, Manmarziyaan marks Bachchan’s comeback to films after a gap of two years (his last release was Farah Khan’s Happy New Year). This is his first project with Phantom Films.

“As this part of the journey of Manmarziyaan comes to an end… Thank you Anurag Kashyap for entrusting me with Robbie. I hope I can repay your trust, belief and faith in me. I hope I make you proud. And as and when you look back on this journey, my victory would be if you smile,”  Bachchan had shared a post on social media after completing the shoot of the film.

The release date of the film has not been finalised yet.
