Manogari, the upcoming Tamil film starring Sai Dhanshika, is a suspense action thriller which will feature the actor in a dual role, director Nawaz Ahmed tells Silverscreen India.
The film marks the directorial debut of Nawaz and it is backed by Maheshwaran Nandagopal, under the Surya Film Productions banner. The project went on floors on February 4, following an inaugural ceremony.
“Manogari is a female-centric film, but there will also be a male protagonist, whom we will reveal soon,” says the director.
“The film’s core is about how a righteous person struggles to live the way they want to. When a traumatised woman approaches another woman for help, in some circumstances, even the latter gets affected by it. The crux of the story is about how they overcome this. In one role, Dhanshika will appear as a grounded girl, while the other role will that of be a dominant, action-oriented character. However, both roles will portray different ideas of strength and the film will have elements of emotions and action,” he adds.
Besides direction, Nawaz has also written the story, screenplay, and dialogues. He penned the script in 2019 and says he opted to make the lead actor play a dual role, instead of using different actors, in order to make the screenplay more intriguing.
On the rest of the cast, he adds, “Telugu actor Rajkumar, son of Karate Mani, is playing the villain. Kannika Snehan, the wife of lyricist Snehan, is also part of the cast, as are Aditya Kadhir, Bijili Ramesh, Jayaraj, theatre artists Jegatheeswaran and Zaheer, and Ilavarasu.”
Manogari will have music composed by Karthik Raja and the film will feature five songs. The technical crew includes KV Mani as the cinematographer and editor SP Ahmed.
The team is currently shooting in Dindugal, Tamil Nadu. Following which, there will be a 30-day schedule in Kodaikanal.
The makers are looking to wrap up the film within the next few months.
