Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham: Mohanlal-Starrer to Release in Theatres Worldwide on August 12

Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham the Malayalam film starring Mohanlal in the lead role, which was scheduled to release on May 13, will release in the theatres worldwide on August 12, the actor announced on Tuesday.

Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, written and directed by Priyadarshan, won awards for the best feature film, best special effects and best costume design at the 67th National Film Awards.

The film’s release has been postponed four times since it was first announced. The initial release, scheduled for March 26, 2020, was postponed to March 26, 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Later the release of the film was postponed yet again, this time to May 13, marking the Eid festival. Makers have now further delayed the release by three months.

The announcement of postponing the film’s release comes days after the Kerala government, on April 19, ordered all theatres in the state to close by 7:30 pm for the next two weeks to curb the sudden spike in Covid-19 cases in the state.

Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is set in the 16 century and narrates the story of Kunjali Marakkar IV, the fourth and the last of the Malayali naval leaders deployed by the by the Samoothiri of Calicut to fight against the Portuguese, between 1507 and 1600.

The film, also known as Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea has been dubbed in several languages including Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, English and Chinese. The film was shot in Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City and Kovalam in Kerala.

Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham is produced by Antony Perambavoor under the Aashirvaad Cinemas banner at a budget of Rs 100 crores. Antony’s production house has collaborated with Mohanlal for over 25 films including the blockbuster hit Drishyam and its sequel Drishyam 2 that released on Amazon Prime Video in February, 2021.

While Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’s background score is composed by Rahul Raj Ankit Suri and Lyell Evans Roeder, the songs are composed by Ronnie Raphael.  The technical crew includes Thiru as the cinematographer, Aiyappan Nair M.S as the editor, Thyagarajan, Kazu Neda as the stunt coordinators and Pattanam Rasheed as the makeup artist.
