Maari 2 Movie Stills Starring Dhanush

With the promotions for Maari 2 happening in full swing, the first-look posters of the film were released last week. The character posters of Dhanush, Sai Pallavi, Tovino Thomas, Krishna, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Robo Shankar were unveiled.

Directed by Balaji Mohan and produced by Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films, Maari 2 stars Sai Pallavi in the lead. It also features Tovino Thomas, who plays antagonist, Krishna, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Vidya Pradeep, Robo Shankar and Kalloori Vinoth in supporting roles. While there isn’t a lot of information about the plot, the film is expected to be a gangster drama, similar to Maari. The film is slated to release sometime in December.

The characters revealed thus far:

Dhanush as Maari

The poster shows Dhanush as a gangster sporting a moustache, a veshti and shirt with floral patterns, and John Lennon sunglasses. In the image, captioned ‘the naughtiest don’, Maari is seen flicking a fire-cracker.

Sai Pallavi as Aanandhi

The poster of Sai Pallavi (who’s seen pairing a nose-pin with the ‘khakhi’ coat of an auto-driver) is captioned ‘Araathu Aanandhi’ – ‘araathu‘ is used to describe someone who’s a bit of a rowdy.

Krishna as Kalai

Actor Krishna, who was last seen in Kalari, plays (Jigiri Dhosth) Kalai, a friend of Maari. He is the son of Nilakkari Velu, and is another don (‘weight kai’) in the area.

Tovino Thomas as Beeja

Tovino, who plays Beeja, is referred to as Thanatos, the personification of death in Greek mythology. He plays the antagonist in the film. In the poster, he sports a tattoo, dreadlocks and a black bandanna and is seemingly engulfed by fire.

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar as Vijaya

Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who played antagonist in Vijay’s Sarkar and Vishal’s Sandakozhi 2, is a bold and honest person in Maari 2 who strives to do good. She’s the Joint Secretary of State – Department of Law and Judiciary, dressed in crisp cotton sarees; not very unlike her look in Sarkar in which she played politician.

Robo Shankar as ‘Sanikelamai’ and Kalloori Vinoth as ‘Adithangi’

‘Sanikelamai’ and ‘Adithangi’ are not just Maari’s friends, but they are his everything. These two characters stood by Maari in the earlier film as well.

Om Prakash has handled the cinematography for Maari 2, with Amaran in charge of production design. Prasanna GK has edited the film, with music composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja. YSR is collaborating with Dhanush after almost a decade, their last two projects together were Parattai Engira Azhagu Sundaram (2007) and Yaaradi Nee Mohini (2008). Prabhu Deva has choreographed a song for the film.
