Since it’s a silent thriller, music is also a character in the film, ranging from loud menacing to ominous. Towards the end of the trailer, Prabhu Deva’s character is heard screaming with the background sound of a car sensor going off.  This is the first time in 30 years, Indian cinema has a silent movie.

It was reported earlier that director Karthik Subbaraj postponed the release of the trailer due to the ongoing strike in the Tamil film industry and the protest for the formation of the Cauvery water management board. Earlier, it was reported that the film will release on April 13, but due to the standoff between producers council and the digital service providers, it might get postponed as well.

Touted to be a silent-horror-thriller, Mercury stars Prabhu Deva in the lead. The teaser that was released last month showed a creepy looking Prabhu Deva with blood dripping from the corners of his mouth. Ramya Nambesan, Sanath Reddy and Indhuja will also be seen in important roles.

A silent film with ‘no language releasing in all languages’, it’s narration will solely rely on sound, body language and expressions and will have no dialogues. The haunting music for the movie is composed by Santhosh Narayanan. The inspiration for the title of the movie is revealed in the teaser as it shows a tombstone which reads, “In memory of 84 people who died in this town due to Mercury poisoning.”
