Twitter India announced the most tweeted hashtags in the country this year, and it includes two of India’s biggest releases – Baahubali 2: The Conclusion and Mersal. The other hashtag in the list is #BB11, a reference to the 11th season of reality show Bigg Boss, hosted by Salman Khan.

Baahubali 2: The Conclusion released in April this year, and was the sequel to the 2015 film Baahubali: The Beginning starring Prabhas, Ramya Krishnan, Rana Daggubati, Sathyaraj, Nasser, Anushka Shetty, and Tamannnaah Bhatia. Directed by SS Rajamouli, the film was also the biggest box-office grosser with estimated earnings of over Rs 1,500 crore.

Mersal was a Deepavali release this year, and continues to run in theatres despite having released in October. The film, directed by Atlee, features Vijay in triple roles. Nithya Menen, Samantha Akkineni, and Kajal Aggarwal are the female leads, and SJ Suryah plays the villain. The film has been declared a superhit, reportedly grossing Rs 250 crores. Vishal Responds To Cheran’s Comment About Quitting TFPC

Director and producer Cheran went on record on Monday declaring that TFPC President, Nadigar Sangam General Secretary, actor, producer, and now a candidate for the RK Nagar by-polls – Vishal Krishna – should quit the producers’ council. His argument was the potential conflict of interest that was bound to arise as the TFPC is dependent on the government.

Vishal, in a press release shared this afternoon, said that Cheran’s comments were unwelcome and pathetic as there are no laws that state otherwise.

“There is no law that the one in charge of a union should not stand in the election. This is my personal decision. Cheran’s argument cannot be accepted. I see that the government will blame the Producers Council for the sake of contesting the election as a charge against democracy. Cheran’s argument is like spurning today and former governments and former union executives,” he wrote.

Kangana Ranaut Says No To Shabana Azmi’s Petition On Backing Padmavati

Several members of the industry have shown their solidarity towards filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and actress Deepika Padukone after their film Padmavati was mired in controversy this year. Actress Kangana Ranaut, who has been keeping a low profile ever since the release of her film Simran, admits she hasn’t signed the petition that has been doing the rounds.

According to reports, Shabana Azmi, along with Jaya Bachchan, have been circulating a petition that draws attention towards the threats faced by the lead actress. While Kangana says that Deepika has her support, she is still quite wary of the petition because of Shabana in particular.

“I was filming Manikarnika in Jodhpur when I got a call from dear friend Anushka Sharma to sign the petition written by Ms Shabana Azmi. I explained to her that Deepika Padukone has all my support but I am a bit wary of Shabana Azmi’s investment in left wing Vs right wing politics. I have my own set of ideas and opinions about the current situation in our country. I am on the fence about many things and being a part of a feminist movement called ‘Deepika bachao’ led by someone who character assassinated me when I was bullied by influential men, seems to be one of them. Anushka understood, but I am glad they reached out to me; like I said Deepika has all my support – I am an individual perfectly capable of supporting who I like without anyone’s support,” Bollywood Life quotes the actress as saying.
