The film is now expected to stick to its Diwali release date, provided that the Tamil Nadu Film Producer’s Council withdraws its decision to not allow any new film releases. The TFPC made the decision earlier this week, upon hearing of the Tamil Nadu government’s decision to impose an additional tax of 10 percent on Tamil films.

Meanwhile, Mersal’s legal troubles also ended. The interim ban on the film was removed by the Madras High Court earlier this week. The ban was placed as a producer had claimed that he had registered the title ‘Mersal’ for his own film.
The film is Vijay’s 61st as an actor and is highly anticipated. He reportedly plays a doctor, a panchayat head and a magician in the film.
The film’s trailer already has over 25 million views on YouTube. Music is by AR Rahman.
Mersal is Sri Thenandal Studios’ 100th project.
