Mishti Chakraborty Bags Pivotal Role In Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika

Mishti Chakraborty, who was last seen in Semma Botha Aagatha opposite Atharvaa Murali, has bagged a role in the Kangana Ranaut-starrer Manikarnika.

Sources close to the Deccan Chronicle reveal that the actress has a pivotal role in the period drama, helmed by National Award winning director Radha Krishna Jagarlamudi. The director was apparently on the lookout for an actor to essay a crucial role in the film. Impressed with Mishti’s performance from her previous films, the director offered her the role.

Mishti is done shooting her part for the film and Krish is said to be very impressed with her performance. “Since Manikarnika is a period film, Krish was very specific when it comes to casting and has handpicked all the characters. And he happens to chance upon Mishti for a pivotal role in the film. And the director is super happy with Mishti’s performance,” a source close to Deccan Chronicle adds.

The film was originally announced as a Ketan Mehta directorial, but changed hands due to creative differences between Mehta and Ranaut, according to reports. Apparently, Mehta wanted to make the film in English, something Ranaut did not agree with. Thus, eventually the team decided to hand over the biopic to a different studio or director.

The film is a biopic on Rani Jhansi Laxmibai, who was born in Varanasi in 1828. Writer KV Vijayendra Prasad of Baahubali fame, has penned the script for the film. Kangana plays Queen of Jhansi in the film, which will be high on action. Manikarnika is shot in actual locations where the Rani of Jhansi had lived, capturing places in and around Varanasi.

Shankar-Ehsan-Loy, the musical trio consisting of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa, has composed the film’s music.
