Speaking at the Thani Oruvan press meet, director Mohan Raja said that regardless of the number of remakes, Thani Oruvan would always be a special film for him. The teaser was screened at the event, along with an unedited song featuring actors Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara. Raja, who is known for his composed demeanour, spoke about his anger over certain social injustices, and said that this this forms the basis for Thani Oruvan.
Like Thani Oruvan, his previous film Velayudham, also carries a social message. According to Raja, “Their stories are completely different and as my father Mohan describes it, I have sugar-coated the social message for a better reach.” The director had hit a low point after the Hindi version of Ramana was shelved and this time away, said Raja, helped him to create an original script.
He further said that Nayanthara’s character, a civil service drop-out, would be bold and powerful, and would really impact the course of the story. Adding that it was a huge advantage to have Jayam Ravi, Arvind Swami and music director Hip Hop Adhi on board, Raja signed off saying, “I am sure that Thani Oruvan will definitely impress all of you.”
