After 123 days of shoot, work has wrapped up on Mohanlal’s much-awaited thriller Odiyan. Now, news is coming in that the actor and director Priyadarshan, who have worked together in many hits, are teaming up again.
Mohanlal’s Neerali, helmed by Ajoy Varma, is ready for release, and the actor recently went to England to join the shoot of Ranjith’s Bilathi Katha. The film with long-time collaborator Priyadarshan has been titled Marakkar- Arabikadalinte Simham, and the actor revealed the news on his Facebook page.
The film is to be made under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas by Antony Preumbavoor with co-producers Santhosh T Kuruvila and CJ Roy.
Mohanlal and Priyadarshan join hands after their last successful outing, Oppom in Malayalam. The duo has worked together for more than two decades, and boast a rich oeuvre of films such as Chithram, Boeing Boeing, Vellanakalude Nadu and Thalavattam. Priyadarshan’s last project was Nimir, a remake of the Malayalam hit Maheshinte Prathikaram, with Udayanidhi Stalin in the lead. The film failed to impress the box office.
Will Marakkar- Arabikadalinte Simham result in a clash between the two superstars of Malayalam cinema? Mammootty has already announced a film, Kunjaali Marakkar, directed by Santhosh Sivan. Incidentally, this is the third time a film is being made on Kunjali Marakkar. In 1967, Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair played the title character in a film on the same subject, and was supported by actors such as Prem Nazir and Sukumari. Directed by SS Rajan, the movie won that year’s National Award for Best Malayalam Movie.
