The actor made the announcement on social media on Wednesday. He wrote, “It’s with great excitement and happiness that I announce my next project with Shaji Kailas which starts rolling in October 2021.”

Noting that he is collaborating with Kailas after 12 long years, Mohanlal added that the yet-to-be-titled film’s script will be written by Rajesh Jayaram.

The actor and director duo have previously collaborated on popular action dramas like Aaram Thaburan (1997) and Narasimham (2000). After Kailas’ Malayalam film Thandavam (2002), also starring Mohanlal, and Tamil film Jana (2004) did not fare well at the box office, the filmmaker made a successful comeback in Malayalam with the Mohanlal-starrer Natturajavu in 2004.

Mohanlal and Kailas then made the 2006 action thriller Baby Kalyani. The duo last worked together in 2009 on the crime thriller Red Chillies. The upcoming film thus marks their reunion after 12 years.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Mohanlal finished shooting for Bro Daddy, the upcoming Malayalam film directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran. Bro Daddy marks actor Prithviraj’s second directorial after the 2019 Malayalam action-drama Lucifer, which was also headlined by Mohanlal. Bro Daddy’s writer earlier told Silverscreen India that the film will be a feel-good family entertainer with casual fun elements.

The actor will also be seen in Jeethu Joseph’s upcoming directorial titled 12th MAN. In an earlier interaction with Silverscreen India, the filmmaker revealed that 12th MAN will be a mystery film. “It is a story that unfolds in 24 hours and the film has only 14 characters overall. There will be no song sequences in the film,” the director added.

Besides these, Mohanlal has several other projects in the pipeline, including Aaraattu, Ram, Barroz: Guardian of D’ Gama’s Treasure, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, and L2: Empuraan.

Kailas, who last directed the Tamil film Vaigai Express, has the Prithviraj starrer-Kaduva, which went on floors earlier this year, coming up next.
