The trailer of director Priyadarshan’s crime-drama Oppam, starring Mohanlal and Vimala Raman, will be released along with Rajinikanth’s Kabali. Alphonse Putheren, the director-turned-editor who made the highly successful Premam, has edited the trailer of Oppam.
Mohanlal’s Ashirvad Cinemas, in association with Suresh Balaji, who is Mohanlal’s brother-in-law, is distributing Kabali in Kerala. The team acquired the distribution rights for a whopping Rs. 8 crores, according to a Manorama Online report. They had edged out eight high-profile contenders including Sandra Thomas and Vijay Babu’s Friday Film House.
Kabali, directed by Pa Ranjith and produced by Kalaipuli Thanu, is being released on 22 July. In Kerala, Kabali is releasing on more than 250 screens. Recently, a multiplex by Ashirvad Cinemas was inaugurated in Thodupuzha by Mohanlal. It has four screens and will have Kabali as its inaugural movie.
Oppam, which is set to release during the Onam season, is produced by Ashirvad Cinemas. The film is edited by MS Ayyappan Nair and the script is by Priyadarshan. It marks the comeback of Priyadarshan-Mohanlal partnership which has created many successful movies such as Chithram, Thenmavin Kombathu, Chandralekha and Kaakka Kuyil in the past. Their last one, a horror-thriller named Geethanjali, was not commercially successful.
