Nadigar Sangam Donates Rs 5000 To Its Members Affected By Cyclone Gaja

Vishal, Nasser, Rajkiran at Nadigar Sangam's Diwali Gift Distribution Event for the Members

On Tuesday, South Indian Artistes Association (Nadigar Sangam) donated Rs 5000 to all members of the association affected by cyclone Gaja.

In a statement released by the association, the president of Nadigar Sangam, actor Nasser, told, “Rs 5000 has been given to each member of the association in Pudhukottai, Tanjore, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts which were the most affected areas by cyclone Gaja. A sum of Rs 8,60,000 has been contributed to the artistes on behalf of the association.” South Indian Artistes Association also expressed their gratitude to all the NGOs who helped and supported those affected.

On November 16, the cyclonic storm Gaja hit the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry leaving atleast 45 people dead and evacuating 250,000 people to relief camps.

The most affected districts were Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukottai, Dindigul, Trichy, Karur, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, and Karaikal in Puducherry.

Rajinikanth issued a statement directing Rajini Makkal mandram to distribute Rs 50 lakh worth relief materials. Kamal Haasan asked Makkal Needhi Maiam members to extend all possible support on ground. He visited affected areas. Actor Vijay transferred Rs 40 lakh to district presidents of Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, along with instructions on how to carry out relief work. Actor Ajith Kumar donated Rs 15 lakhs to the Chief Minister’s relief fund.

Director Rajsekar, along with actors Sivakumar, Suriya, Karthi and Jyotika donated Rs 50 lakh for relief work. Vijay Sethupathi was said to have donated Rs 25 lakh worth materials, and Sivakarthikeyan donated Rs 10 lakh to the CM’s relief fund. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar and composer GV Prakash showed support. Dhanush Fan Club members organised medical relief camps.
