Nandyala Ravi, the Telugu writer and director, died at a hospital in Hyderabad of Covid-19- related complications on Friday .

He was 42.

The late filmmaker had tested positive for the virus about 20 days ago and was admitted to a private hospital. However, while his health began to improve, Ravi suffered a cardiac arrest and died early on Friday.

Director Vijay Kumar Konda, who collaborated with Ravi in Power Play (2021), told Silverscreen India, “He was a very close friend to me. We have known each other for the past seven to eight years and have worked on different scripts together. We have worked in Power Play and Orey Bujjiga (2020). He was a very talented and good writer and that is the reason why we traveled almost eight years together. He was also directing a film with comedian Saptagiri currently and I know the story. It is a super entertainment story and all was going good, but unexpectedly, Covid took his life.”

Vijay said that Ravi’s health was improving 15 days after he tested positive but deteriorated a few days back. “When he got admitted, he was under ventilator support. His health began to show good signs and he used to call me regularly,” Vijay said.

Reminiscing how he came to know Ravi through common friend and actor Satyam Rajesh, he recalled, “We struck a chord immediately and kept in touch. When we worked together, we would have creative differences or arguments, but at the end of the day, one of us would convince the other. The disputes always occurred for the betterment of the films and they were healthy.”

He said that during Ravi’s hospitalisation, members from the Telugu film industry pooled in their resources for Ravi’s family. “Though he did not ask for money, many, including Saptagiri gaaru, producer Radha Mohan gaaru, helped him [Ravi] financially, at last stages. Even Chiranjeevi gaaru helped him to arrange plasma donations. Many individually contributed money to pay his hospital bills.”

Members of the Telugu film fraternity paid their respects to Ravi on social media.

Ravi’s last rites were conducted in Hyderabad on Friday.

He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.
