Written and directed by the debutant filmmaker, the film is produced by VM Munivelan under the banner of Velan Productions.

Speaking to Silverscreen India about the film, Haroon says, “It is psycho-thriller set in Chennai and is based on people who work in the IT industry.”

Natarajan, who last was seen in Karnan as the antagonist Kannabiran, plays the lead in Web, which also has Shilpa Manjunath essaying another lead role. “The film is based on a cat-and-mouse chase between these characters,” adds the filmmaker.

Shaashvi Bala, who made her debut with Ellam Mela Irukuruvan Paathuppan, is also playing a pivotal role, the director reveals.

The title poster features a spider web and Haroon explains that the title, Web, is a play on words. “It indicates both the Internet and what happens to an insect that gets caught in the web of a spider. The first look will reveal more elements from the film.”

Haroon tells us that Web was a custom-made script for Natarajan. “I wrote this script very recently, in mid-July. And once I narrated it to Natty sir, we went on floors immediately, on August 6.”

The film is being shot by cinematographer Christopher, in Chennai. According to the director, the team is looking to wrap up the shoot by mid-September.

The music of Web is composed by Karthick Raja and Haroon says it plays a vital role in the film. “There are many instances in the film where only the sounds reveal what events are taking place; hence music plays an important role. The composing work is going on in parallel.”

The filmmaker says Web is “pure theatre material” and so the makers are doing their best to release it on the big screen. “We are looking to release the film soon, but we will be taking the situation at the time into account before making the final call.”
