Nayanthara, Biju Menon, Satyadev in Talks for Chiranjeevi’s ‘GodFather’

Directed by Mohan Raja, GodFather is the official Telugu remake of the 2019 Malayalam political thriller Lucifer, which starred Mohanlal in the lead role. The Malayalam film was directed by actor Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Chiranjeevi will be reprising Mohanlal’s role in GodFather.

Noting that makers are in the process of finalising the film’s major cast, our source said that Biju Menon is being considered for the role played by Vivek Oberoi, while Nayanthara is in talks to reprise Manju Warrier’s role. Details about Satyadev’s character are yet to be known.

When Silverscreen India reached out to Biju Menon, the actor who predominantly works in the Malayalam film industry confirmed that he has been approached to be part of GodFather. “We are still in talks and nothing has been finalised yet,” he added.

Notably, during a promotion event for Nayanthara’s Netrikann, filmmaker Mohan Raja had stated that he would be collaborating with her for the third time in Chiranjeevi’s upcoming Telugu film (the film’s title was not announced at that time). Mohan Raja and Nayanthara have earlier worked together on the Tamil films Thani Oruvan and Velaikkaran.

GodFather marks the director’s comeback to Telugu cinema. His last Telugu film was the 2001 action-comedy film Hanuman Junction.

Produced by Ram Charan, RB Choudary, and NV Prasad under the banners of Konidela Productions and Megaa Super Good Films, the film’s title was announced with a motion poster on August 21, a day ahead of Chiranjeevi’s birthday.

About the shoot, which was earlier expected to begin in April, the source said, “The film’s shooting began in the middle of August in Hyderabad. Other locations will be planned according to the weather conditions as it is the rainy season in Hyderabad now. Chiranjeevi is yet to join the sets and the filming is currently underway with the rest of the cast members.” Cinematographer Nirav Shah is helming the camera.

GodFather’s composer S Thaman has begun his work and music sessions are going on to lock the tunes,” the source added.

Meanwhile, Chiranjeevi is also working on the Telugu action-drama film Acharya alongside his son Ram Charan, Kajal Aggarwal, and Pooja Hegde. The film is written and directed by Koratala Siva. The actor is reportedly also set to collaborate with director Meher Ramesh for the Telugu remake of Ajith-starrer Vedalam (2015).
