Nayanthara-Starrer ‘Kolaiyuthir Kaalam’ Release Pushed To August 1

Kolamaavu Kokila Movie Stills Starring Nayanthara

The release of Nayanthara-starrer Kolaiyuthir Kaalam has been pushed to August 1. After facing delays and legal issues, the film was scheduled to be released on July 26, but had to be postponed once again due to unknown reasons.

News surfaced yesterday that the film is not included in this week’s charting in theatres. Today, producer Mathiyalagan of Etcetra Entertainement confirmed to Silverscreen that the movie will have a worldwide release on August 1.

It will now also clash with director Kalyaan’s action-comedy Jackpot starring Jyotika and Revathy, on August 2.

Kolaiyuthir Kaalam was initially scheduled to release with the Hindi version starring Tamannaah and Prabhu Deva, on June 14. But an interim stay was ordered by the Madras High Court in response to director Balaji Kumar’s plea saying said he had the rights to the title and had bought it from late writer Sujatha who published a Tamil novel by the same name in 1981.

The Madras HC asked the producers to respond to Kumar’s claims. In the case heard in the last week of June, Justice Krishnan Ramasamy ruled that the story of the film was new and its release would not amount to copyright infringement.

The mystery-thriller is a remake of the American horror film Hush. In the trailer, Nayanthara is seen stuck in a haunted bungalow abroad, with Bhumika Chawla, Rohini Hattangadi and Prathap Pothen in supporting roles. Achu Rajamani has composed music, cinematography is by Cory Geryak and editing by Rameshwar S Bhagat.

The film was announced in November 2016, but faced production delays. It was during the trailer launch of this film in March this year that Radha Ravi passed derogatory remarks against Nayanthara, who was not present at the event, and was issued a letter of warning by the Nadigar Sangam. Nayanthara also issued a statement calling out his behaviour and those who condoned it, and asked that the Sangam put in place an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC).

Nayanthara is currently busy with many films including Bigil and Darbar, Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy in Telugu and Love Action Drama in Malayalam. She may also star in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan.
