Actress Nayanthara starrer Kolamaavu Kokila that hit screens in 2018 went on to become a hit and was widely appreciated by critics and audiences alike. Helmed by director Nelson Dhilipkumar and bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the dark comedy thriller dealt with a girl named Kokila who gets involved in a drug racket to keep her struggling family afloat. It also starred Saranya Ponvannan, Yogi Babu, Anbu Thasan, and Jacqueline in important roles.
This film will now reportedly be remade in Kannada and will be helmed by RJ-turned-director Mayuraa Raghavendra who had earlier directed the 2019 thriller Kannad Gothilla. Actress Rachita Ram, who is also working on multiple other projects, will be headlining the film. The actress is believed to have been impressed by the story of KK thereby wanting to essay the titular role in the remake.
Mayuraa calls Kolamaavu Kokila a universal subject with an interesting plot and believes that it can be told in many languages.”We are in discussions with Lyca for the remake rights and are on the verge of closing the deal. We want everything confirmed before making an official announcement, and once it is, we will reveal the producers and entire cast and crew of the film,” he says. The director is also reportedly planning to modify the script to suit the tastes of Kannada audiences.
The film marks the first association of the director with the actor after their plan to work together on Kannad Gothilla fell through due to various unknown reasons. Although, it is noteworthy that Rachita had presented his award-winning short film ‘Rishabhapriya’ starring Shri Mahadev and Ragini Chandran in 2017.
Rachita has more than ten films in her kitty. She is currently awaiting the release of Ramesh Aravind‘s 100, and Jogi Prem’s Ek Love Ya and has Veeram, Lilly, Seere, April, Daali, Pantha, Ravi Boppanna, and an untitled project to be helmed by Pushpaka Vimana director Ravindranath ready to go on floors.
