The report adds that the project will be backed by Sun Pictures. The yet-to-be-titled film, tentatively referred to as Thalaivar 169, is expected to go on floors this summer.

“Rajinikanth and Nelson are teaming up next for a feature film. It’s a typical Nelson Dilipkumar film that’s high on content with ample quirky elements in the screenplay. The entire team is excited to take the film on floors by April end/early May,” the report quotes a source in the know as saying.

The upcoming film is expected to be released in theatres sometime between December 2022 and February 2023.

Composer Anirudh Ravichander, who is currently working on Nelson’s third directorial Beast, will be scoring the music for Thalaivar 169 as well.

While an official confirmation about the upcoming film is yet to be made, one will soon be forthcoming with a “special video,” according to Pinkvilla’s source.

Thalaivar 169 will be shot within a span of five to six months at multiple locations based on the Covid-19 scenario, the report adds.

Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, who was last seen in the Tamil action-drama Annaatthe (2021), will also be deciding on his 170th project (Thalaivar 170) by the end of 2022. The report says the actor is in discussion with multiple directors for this project and will finalise it before finishing his film with Nelson.
