New Look From Dhanush’s ‘Asuran’ Releases

Dhanush At The 'Maari 2' Press Meet

Dhanush usually plays charming roles in his films, but he may be seen looking rougher in Asuran, his upcoming film directed by Vetrimaaran. The actor recently tweeted a profile shot of him with trimmed hair, a thick beard and a mustache.

He said announcements about the film will be made soon.

In December, Dhanush released the film’s first-look and title. He said he was happy to associate with director Vetrimaaran again.

The Dhanush-Vetrimaaran combo has set high expectations after their three previous films together – Vada Chennai, Pollathavan and Aadukalam. The latest Vada Chennai chronicled thirty years in the life of an accidental gangster in North Madras. It did well at the box office.

After its release, the team announced that they will take a break and make a different film before Vada Chennai Part 2.

Asuran is based on a Tamil novel titled ‘Vetkai’. It is produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu, who had recently bankrolled Dhanush’s VIP 2.

About the film, Thanu told Silverscreen, “I really enjoyed Vetrimaaran’s previous movies including Vada Chennai and Visaaranai. That is why I chose to do this new film. Anyway, Dhanush and I had been discussing about making a film for a long time now. When this story came to me, I immediately got on board.”

There were also speculations that Anirudh Ravichander might be the film’s composer, but a recent report in The New Indian Express confirmed that GV Prakash Kumar will compose music for the film.

Meanwhile, Dhanush is working on his second directorial, financed by Thenandal Film Studio. It stars Dhanush in the lead, with Nagarjuna, Srikanth, and SJ Suryah in other roles. The film went on floors earlier this year, but has been halted as Dhanush is busy with Asuran.
