New Sacred Games Teaser: Guns, Drugs, Mumbai & An Intense Nawazuddin Siddique

Saif Ali Khan, Radhika Apte and Nawazuddin Siddique will be next seen in the original Netflix drama called Sacred Games. It’s a crime thriller based on Vikram Chandra’s 2006 novel of the same name. The show revolves around a police officer Sartaj Singh played by Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddhique will be seen as a criminal overlord Ganesh Gaitonde and Radhika Apte plays RAW analyst in this show.

The one-minute teaser gives a glimpse into Nawaz’s character creating a havoc in everyone’s world. His character is heard saying things like ‘Sometimes I think I am God’ which gets cut to intense expressions from Radhika and Saif’s characters. Set in the dark alleys of Mumbai featuring a dance bar, gold bars, drugs, guns and lots of action. Nawazuddin also gets to say the final line in the teaser asking, “Do you believe in God?”

You can clearly see directors Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane’s style of movie making in this one. After all, Kashyap has proven his expertise with gangster films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday and Raman Raghav 2.0. Motwane, who is gearing up for the release of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, has worked on a crime thriller for the first time.

Sacred Games focuses on Sartaj Singh, a seasoned and cynical Mumbai Police officer, who gets an anonymous tip that promises him an opportunity to capture the powerful Ganesh Gaitonde, criminal overlord of the G-Company. As the stakes mount and Sartaj digs deeper, it becomes clear that the game the two players thought they were engaged in, is in fact, part of a much larger syndicate. The book throws light on the underbelly of Mumbai.

Earlier in an interview given to MidDay, Saif opened up about why he agreed to the web-series. He was quoted as saying, “I think web content is really powerful and that’s where we all need to be. Television has a lot of restrictions. Web content, on the other hand, is devoid of any kind of censorship. It’s a free environment.”

Sacred Games is produced in partnership with Phantom Films, Sacred Games be available to the streaming giant’s over 100 million members in more than 190 countries. The show premieres on July 6.
