Nine: Prithviraj Announces Maiden Project Under His Productions Company With Sony Pictures

Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran has already launched his own production company along with his wife Supriya Menon. Called Prithviraj Productions, the company is set to partner with Sony Pictures India for its maiden venture.

The film titled Nine stars Prithviraj himself. The actor revealed that this is his initial project under his new production company Prithviraj Productions, where he is collaborating with Sony International Production.

The Facebook post suggests that the film is written and directed by the 100 Days of Love director Jenuse Mohamed, son of the veteran director Kamal. Music is by Shan Rahman and Abhinandhan Ramanujan is handling the camera. The shooting for the film will begin sometime next month.

Previously, Sony Pictures India had announced details about the project which will mark its foray into Malayalam cinema.

“It started with what I thought was a casual conversation over coffee with Vivek Krishnani, MD, Sony Pictures India. I was trying to convince him that if ideas that would make entertaining films and yet stay away from conventions were what they were looking for, then Malayalam cinema is the place to be. It was then that Vivek said he would be more than willing to join hands with me for their foray into Malayalam if I did indeed have such a script in hand. I did!” shared Prithviraj on Facebook, on how the collaboration took shape.

Prithviraj had earlier teamed up with Shaji Nadesan and cinematographer-director Santhosh Sivan to launch August Cinema back in 2010. Later, Tamil actor Arya too, became a co-partner. August Cinema’s first production had been the 2011 Prithviraj starrer Urumi, directed by Santhosh Sivan, while the latest was the 2017 Mammootty-starrer The Great Father. The production company also has a slew of movies up for release this year, including Kunjali Marakkar featuring Mammootty; it would also be distributing Rajinikanth’s 2.0 in Kerala. Prithviraj ended his partnership with the company last year.
