Candidates contesting the Tamil Nadu Film Producers’ Council elections cannot use social media to campaign for votes. A meeting held on January 25 decided that the Tamil Film Producers’ Council (TFPC) will officially take place on March 5, and will be held under the supervision of N Rajeshwaran, retired judge of the high court and election officer of TFPC. The meeting also laid down the rules for campaigning.
According to a Deccan Chronicle report, Rajeshwaran gave clear instructions to the candidates that no members of this election should use social network media like Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp or put up banners or make derogatory remarks while campaigning for votes. Instead, they can put up notices or visit producer’s house to get votes. The upcoming elections are for the following posts – the President, two Vice Presidents, two Secretaries, one Treasurer, and 21 Executive Committee Members.
The election that was slated to take place on February 5, was postponed by a month owing to the Jallikattu protest and unrest in Tamil Nadu. The elections will begin from 8 AM and end by 4 PM without a break. The counting of the votes will begin an hour after the elections.

Each post mandates a deposit by the candidate in order to participate in the elections. The President pays Rs. 1 lakh, the Vice Presidents, Secretaries and Treasurers pay Rs. 50,000 each, while hopeful Executive Committee Members pay Rs. 10,000.
Among various candidates, actress Khushbu will be contesting for the post of President. Currently a national spokesperson for the Congress, the actress and producer confirmed that with Nadigar Sangam’s backing, she would be running for the post with other members of her team running for other positions in the elections.
