Oru Bohemian Ganam is the title of director Tom Emmatty’s next Malayalam film. The film’s title look poster was released by actors Prithviraj Sukumaran and Tovino Thomas on social media recently.
The film is written by Tom and produced by NM Badusha and Shinoy Mathew under the Matinee production banner.
Speaking to Silverscreen India, Tom said, “Oru Bohemian Ganam will be a political thriller film set in a college campus. The film is set in 1975 when an Emergency was declared in India.”
Tom’s directorial debut, Oru Mexican Aparatha (2017), was also set in a college campus.
“Oru Mexican Aparatha was based on the rivalry between two student union groups. In Oru Bohemian Ganam we will explore strong campus politics and the students’ fight against the government,” he said.
Tom wrote the script for Oru Bohemian Ganam last year, during the Covid-19 induced lockdown. He added that he was inspired by the stories his mother told him about living through the National Emergency.
“During my childhood, my mother used to tell me stories about life during the emergency. She also told me about some of the unforgettable experiences from that period. Those stories always stayed with me and that’s how I wanted to make a film set in that period,” he said.
The film is currently in the pre-production stage and the makers are planning to commence shooting sometime in April next month. Tom said that the team is currently in the casting stage. The film is said to have one prominent actor and a lot of new faces who will be chosen through the Matinee platform.
“That apart, the art department is a significant aspect of the film as the story is set in 1975. We are doing the research work and collecting references for the same. As of now, we are planning to shoot in Kozhikode in Kerala. And the details of cast and technical crew will be announced later,” he added.
Apart from Oru Bohemian Ganam, Tom has another upcoming Malayalam film titled Duniyavinte Oraththu starring Sreenath Bhasi, Sudhi Koppa and Anu Sithara.
