Talking about his debut directorial Oru Naal Iravil, editor and director Anthony said at a recent press conference, “Sathyaraj sir is like clay, we can mould him into any character. Anu Mol plays a prostitute in this film while debutant Varun portrays an auto driver. We had a workshop for Varun before the shooting began, because of which the shooting was completed within three months.”
Oru Naal Iravil is a crime thriller, jointly produced by businessman Sam Paul and director Vijay. Vijay said Anthony had initially narrated a real-life story about his friend, and was in two minds about making the film. “I made Anthony watch Shutter, and we decided to purchase the rights from our friend Joy Mathew. We have used the core script and have retained a majority of the scenes in the remake. Factoring in cultural differences, about 20% of the scenes have been newly scripted.” Shutter is a 2012 Malayalam thriller, focusing on the lives of two Indian labourers working in the Gulf.
Oru Naal Iravil is scheduled to release on November 20. The will also feature Gautham Menon in a cameo appearance.
