Pankaj Tripathi Joins Kabir Khan’s ’83

Pankaj Tripathi is the latest addition to the cast of Kabir Khan’s new movie ’83, based on India’s world cup victory. The movie, featuring Ranveer Singh in the role of the world cup winning captain Kapil Dev, will see Tripathi as the team manager Man Singh.

Talking about his admiration for the director, Tripathi said in an India Today report, “He is one of my favourite directors and we met a couple of times but never got an opportunity to work together. Then one day, he called me to narrate the story of 83 and at certain points, it made me tear up.”

Though he was relatively young, the victory did leave a mark on him as a child, said Tripathi. “I must have been around eight or nine at the time but I did read about the win in the papers. It’s an inspiring story and I leapt at the opportunity to be a part of the film.”

About preparing for his character in the film, the Newton star said, “I was good at bowling and fielding and I am hoping to brush up my batting skills while prepping for this film. I will also meet Man Singh Ji and talk to him about his experiences. For now, I have been given some books and documents to refer to.”

The movie features Jiiva in the role of Krishnamachari Srikkanth. The actor has been practising under the guidance of the cricketer. “He has been allocating two hours every day for practice sessions. He is working under the supervision of Srikkanth himself. These sessions are expected to be over in February and the actor will start shooting for his part in March,” said a source.

The movie is scheduled to release on April 20, 2020.
