Petition Launched To Make Princess Leia A Disney Princess

A new petition has been launched to make Princess Leia, the saber-wielding female lead from George Lucas’ Star Wars series, an official Disney Princess. The petition was launched by fans of actress Carrie Fisher, who played the iconic role. She passed away on December 27, 2016.

“After the tragic loss of Carrie Fisher, we feel that it is only fitting for Disney to do away with the rule that an official Disney princess must be animated and make Leia a full-fledged princess. What we are asking is that the Walt Disney Corporation hold a full ceremony inducting Leia as the newest Disney princess as well as a special service in memory of Carrie Fisher.”

The campaign was started by Cody Christensen of Cedar City, Utah, who claims the petition will be delivered to Disney CEO Bob Iger.

The petition has garnered nearly 50,000 signatures; and needs another 25,000 to reach its intended goal.

Meanwhile, a Star Wars brain trust has already scheduled a meeting to discuss how to portray Princess Leia onscreen.
