A sequel to Vijay Antony’s Pichaikkaran is currently in the works, according to the film’s lead Vijay Antony. The actor told ToI, “The makers initially had no plans to come up with a sequel for Pichaikkaran, which was one of the few films this year, which reaped high returns in both Tamil and Telugu. However, many people seem to have been enquiring after this possibility, and so, they have decided to give it a shot. If everything goes well, the audience can expect a sequel to the film in 2018″
Pichaikkaran is an action thriller which released in May this year. Directed by Sasi, the movie has Vijay Antony and Satna Titus in the lead roles. The movie is about a rich businessman who is forced to live like a beggar for 48 days to save his comatose mother.
Moreover, Vijay Antony might also make his Bollywood debut with the Hindi remake of Pichaikkaran. He is said to be in talks with Fox star studios for the project.
The 41 year old began his career as a music director in 2005 with the film Sukran. He turned actor with the 2012 film Naan.
Pichaikaaran has been a turning point in his acting career. The film became a success in Tamil Nadu. The Telugu version Bichagadu has been arguably the biggest hit in Tollywood this year. Bichagadu released in May and raked in more than Rs 20 crores. The distributors of the film had bought it for just Rs 50 lakh.
The magnitude of Bichagadu’s profit reflected on Bethaldu’s (Saithaan) business – the Telugu producers purchased the rights to the film for Rs 3 crore.
Vijay Antony is currently filming Jeeva Shankar’s Yeman. His Saithaan is all set to release on December 2.
