It’s the beginning of 2018 and we have a truckload of issues plaguing our country. From Banaras Hindu University (BHU) introducing Vedas as a part of their curriculum to Kerala police arresting journalists who were covering a protest led by Dalits in Ernakulam, the country is clearly going through a period of unrest.
It’s also a time when click-bait news take precedence over real issues with politicians exhibiting how uninformed they are. Case in point: India’s HRD minister Satyapal Singh, suggesting that Darwin’s theory is “scientifically wrong” and “needs to change” in school and university curricula.
In a bid to tackle the high level of misinformation, a few days ago, a Facebook page was started that shares important news along with a photo of Taimur Ali Khan, the internet’s favourite blue-eyed boy.
The Facebook page – Pictures Of Taimur Ali Khan To Distract You From Real Issues with the user name as @EkachVaadaTaimurDada – is satirical, taking a dig at major news agencies that often go overboard sharing pictures of Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s son.
Worried about Aadhaar breach but also like Taimur’s photos? This one’s for you.
The bio of the page clearly states their intentions upfront. “Since news outlets are busy drooling over Taimur, we had to create this page to tell you guys about what’s going on in our country.” With the obsession of Taimur and his existence grabbing all the news, how else are we to get some real news going?
