In a surprising turn of events, the court has slapped a Rs 5 lakh penalty on the Bhojpuri actor as it did not find any prima facie case. The court has rejected Rathod’s plea for a stay on the movie’s release. He has now appealed against the order.

Rathod had claimed that film is a rip-off of his 2013 tri-lingual movie, Mangal Phera

Phillauri stars Anushka Sharma and Udta Punjab actor, Diljit Dosanj in lead roles. Suraj Sharma, who was the lead in Life of Pi also has an important role in the movie. Produced by Anushka Sharma’s Clean Slate Films along with Fox Star Studios, the movie will hit screens on March 24.
