Prabhu Deva will direct Dabangg 3 – the third instalment in the Dabangg series, starring Salman Khan. The first two in the series were directed by Abhinav Kashyap and Arbaaz Khan.
Prabhu Deva, who was conferred with the Padma Shri recently, has been credited for reviving Salman Khan’s acting career in the past. After a string of flops in the 2000s there was a resurgence in his career when he starred in Prabhu Deva’s Wanted. A remake of the Tamil film Pokkiri, which itself was a remake of a Telugu film of the same name, Wanted went onto become a huge hit in 2009.
Khan then followed it up with Dabangg in 2010 which became one of the highest grossing films during the time of its release. Nine years later Prabhu Deva is directing the third film in the series.
Talking about the movie, he says that the pre-production has already begun. “I was in Chennai shooting for my Tamil films but because of Dabangg 3, I’ve moved to Mumbai again. Now, I visit Chennai for a day or two, I recently did for my son’s birthday. Otherwise, I am fully in Mumbai looking into the pre-production of Dabangg 3.”
The shoot for the film is set to begin by March. “I have five different projects in Tamil as an actor which are in various stages of completion. And, I’ve to finish all my work on them by March because that’s when I start shooting for Dabangg 3,” says the choreographer-actor.
Though he has directed Khan in the past, he considers the latest project as a huge responsibility. “I am working hard to ensure Dabangg 3 turns out as effective as the previous Dabangg films. Salman Khan and Arbaaz Khan have reposed a great deal of trust in me. I can’t afford to let them down.”
Prabhu Deva will be wrapping his ongoing projects in a few days to start work on the new movie. He says, “In a few days, I will be done. Then for the next year, I will think of nothing except Dabangg 3.”
He last directed the Akshay Kumar-starrer Singh is Bling. He has also directed Ajay Devgn in Action Jackson and Shahid Kapoor in R… Rajkumar.
