Prashanth’s ‘Johnny’ To Release On December 14

Actor Prashanth’s Johnny – a remake of the Hindi film Johnny Gaddar – will release on December 14. Directed by Pa Vetriselvan, the movie has been produced by the actor’s father – actor-stunt master Thiagarajan.

Directed by Sriram Raghavan, Johnny Gaddar released in 2007 and marked the debut of actor Neil Nitin Mukesh. Both a critical and commercial success, the movie spawned several remakes.

Johnny‘s director Pa. Vetriselvan, has served as an assistant to Jeeva Shankar in the past. Sanchitha Shetty plays the female lead and Prabhu, Anandaraj and Ashutosh Rana are also part of the cast.

While Shankar Ehsaan Loy had composed music for the original, Johnny features music by Jai Ganesh.

Last seen in 2016’s Saagasam, Prashanth called Johnny the third act of his career. After a brief break of five years, the actor returned to acting in 2011 with Ponnar Shankar. Scripted by Kalaignar Karunanidhi and directed by his father Thiagarajan, the movie failed to elicit any response from the viewers. His subsequent movies – Mambattiyan and Pulan Visaranai 2 too failed at the box office.

Prashanth said in an interview with Silverscreen:”Sometimes, we just have to remind people that we still have something up our sleeve. Artistes are the only ones who can reinvent themselves over and over again. I don’t think of this as my last shot. It’s my third act. And it’s going to be good.” The story of Johnny has been tweaked to make it palatable for the Tamil audience, and the protagonist won’t be entirely evil, he said. “Nobody can take a complete villain. He has to have a soft spot somewhere.”

The actor added, “There will be songs. There will be dances. There will be romance. I was trained to do all of this. It went out of fashion at some point. But it will come back. No trend is a sure thing. They don’t last forever.”

Johnny also stars Sayaji Shinde, Kalairani, Devadarshini and Sugunthan. The cinematography of the movie is handled by M V Panneerselvam while the editing is taken care of by Shiva Saravanan.
