Bulgaria is fast turning into a sought-after location for Indian movies. Many recent movies like Dilwale and Shivaay, featuring big stars, have been shot in the country.
Directed by Ayan Mukherjee and produced by Karan Johan, Brahmastra stars Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, Dimple Kapadia and Mouni Roy alongside Ranbir Kapoor. The movie is being made as a trilogy, the first part of which is slated to release in August next year. It will also contain fantasy elements in the storyline.
Ayan Mukherjee who last directed the 2013 movie Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani returns after a gap of five years. This marks Mukherjee’s third collaboration with Ranbir Kapoor after the former’s directorial debut Wake Up Sid featuring Kapoor. Both the movies have been successes.
Kapoor whose only release last year was Jagga Jasoos which performed dismally at the box office received a lease of life with this year’s Sanju. Directed by Raj Kumar Hirani, the movie is a biopic on Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt. The movie has gone to become the ninth highest grossing Indian film.
Bhatt who was appreciated for her role in this year’s Raazi currently awaits the release of the Ranvir Singh-starrer Gully Boy on February 14 next year. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the movie is based on the lives of Vivian Fernandez and Naved Shaikh – two rappers from Mumbai.
Brahmastra brings together Kapoor and Bhatt for the first time.
