“I believe that it’s time for me to start travelling on a different tangent, and on that journey, I might not always be able to be part of a partnership. So with great memories, heartfelt gratitude and some films that I will be proud of forever, I bid adieu to August Cinemas,” he wrote.

The actor began August Cinemas along with Santosh Sivan and Shaji Nadesan in 2010. Actor Arya too joined the company soon. Around 17 films have been bankrolled and distributed under the banner. Some of them are: Urumi (2011), Bangalore Days (2014), Anuraga Karikkin Vellam (2016), and The Great Father

Prithviraj added that the company began purely as means to “facilitate deserving and aesthetic cinema”.

The actor currently has a few films in the pipeline, including My Story, Adam Joan, and Detroit Crossing. He is also set to work with Mohanlal in his first ever directorial venture.
