Maidaan, which is touted to be a true story about Indian football’s golden years, now sees a new addition to its acting roster. The Ajay Devgn starrer now features Priyamani, the National Award-winning actress who will play Ajay Devgn’s romantic interest in the film.
The role was initially to be played by Keerthy Suresh, who had even shot for the film for one day. However, the makers felt that since Keerthy has recently lost weight, she looked too young to play a mother in the film.
The makers of the film say that they do not want the film to look and feel inauthentic, so, they have tried to make sure that all elements of the film are true to life. The director, Amit Ravindernath Sharma, who is also a National Award winner, was very particular about the look of each character, hence the change in the casting. Keerthy Suresh and the makers of the film reportedly had an amicable parting over this matter, and have promised to collaborate together some time in the future.
