Priyanka Chopra: “I Have Been Told I am Too Indian for a Mainstream Part”

Priyanka Chopra has revealed that ‘many people’ told her that she looked too Indian to get mainstream roles in Hollywood. 

Although her first big Hollywood film Baywatch hasn’t been especially successful, Priyanka is in talks for two more films. Her TV show Quantico is also being renewed for a third season. She says it’s taken her a while to break into the US film industry. 

“It encourages people to not look at South Asians through a singular prism. Hopefully, people will not see us as exotic princesses now. Having said that, I am not someone who will harp on something that I have achieved because there is so much more to do so,” she said.

Chopra feels that the situation will change only if people demand more diverse roles.

“We need people to come in and demand good roles. We will not get it all the time, I have faced it myself. So many times I have been told I am too Indian for a mainstream part. I don’t know what that means. That’s what we need to change,” she said.
