Raees Banned in Pakistan

SRK’s Raees has been banned in Pakistan for its ‘inaccurate portrayal of Muslims’. Islam forbids consumption of liquor, and the film has SRK playing a Muslim don who smuggles liqour for a living. The film was reportedly banned by Pakistan’s Central Censor Board for this reason.

A report in TOI said:

“The content undermines Islam and a specific religious sect, (It also) portrays Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists”.

The film found itself in troubled waters due to the strained relationship between the two neighboring nations. The leading lady, Mahira Khan, could not take part in the promotions of Raees as actors from Pakistan are banned by certain outfits in India.

Meanwhile, the Hrithik Roshan-Yami Gautam starrer Kaabil released in Pakistan after the months-long ban was lifted by exhibitors.
