Superstar Rajinikanth, after months of speculations, has finally announced his political entry. In what felt like watching a Rajini movie, the actor, speaking to media persons this morning at Sri Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam, said that he will be starting his own political party, and will contest in all 234 constituencies in Tamil Nadu during the next assembly elections.

Naan arasiyalukku varuvadhu urudhi [I will enter politics for sure]”, he said to resounding applause. Calling his political entry a necessity [“kaalathhin kattayam“], Rajini declared that democracy is dead in the state and that a few political events that had happened the past year in Tamil Nadu have shamed its citizens. “If I don’t enter now, I will feel guilty,” he said, “All my preparations have been done. I am not entering for the money or name.”

He further added that ‘truth, work and growth’ will be the three mantras of his party, and that it would be devoid of caste and religion, and will instead be more spiritual [“aanmeega arasiyal“]. He also implored his fans to not talk ill of any other political party or speculate further. “I don’t need workers, I need guards [“kaavalargal“] to ensure smooth functioning of the state,” declared Rajini, “I represent the people. If I don’t deliver on my promises, I will resign in three years.”

Fans have so far welcomed the actor’s political entry, celebrating his announcement outside his residence in Poes Garden.

BJP MLA Subramanian Swamy though, called Rajinikanth ‘illiterate’.

Meanwhile, much like his fans, members from the film fraternity, too, are excited about Rajinikanth’s political entry. Actor Kamal Haasan, who is also likely to enter politics, congratulated his friend.

Others wished him all the best.
