A group of Rajinikanth fans have started a political party – Super Stars Makkal Kazhagam – on the 64th birthday of the actor. The members of the Tamil Nadu Rajinikanth Podhu Thozhilazhar Sangam, which was started in 1990, passed a resolution to make the group a political one during a meeting in Tirupur yesterday. According to a report in the Dina Thanthi, the group aims to better the lives of the poor people in the state and even has a party flag bearing the pictures of Gandhi, Netaji, Periyar and Kamarajar.

A spokesperson for the group has also reportedly made it clear that the group in no way involves Superstar Rajinikanth, who has been shying away from politics. “Our party was started with the main aim of doing some good for the people and not for any other benefits. Rajinikanth sir is not connected to us, in fact, our main aim is to work in such a way that we add to his glory, and not lessen it.”
Rajinikanth’s publicist declined to comment on the issue.
