Rajinikanth usually does not attend events outside of his own film launches and press meets, so the news of his speech at the Kaappaan audio launch has been trending. He worked with Lyca on his previous film 2.0 directed by Shankar, and is currently working with them on Darbar.
The audio launch of Kaappaan is part of the celebrations for Suriya’s birthday on July 23. The film is scheduled to release on August 30, and will also be out in Telugu as Bandobast. The first-look poster of the Telugu version was released by SS Rajamouli.

The lyric video of the first song from the film, titled ‘Siriki‘ is out. It’s a folk song sung by Senthil Ganesh and Ramani Ganesh, with lyrics by S Gnanakaravel.
The political thriller sees Suriya playing multiple characters including a bomber, a government official and a farmer. Mohanlal plays a prime minister, Boman Irani is a politician. Sayyesshaa is an agent tracking Suriya, and Arya is her lover.
The film is written by KV Anand along with Pattukkottai Prabakar, the crime and thriller novelist who has worked on films such as Imaikka Nodigal, Samurai, Kandaen Kadhalai and more. This is said to be Suriya’s biggest and most expensive film till date. He is working with KV Anand for the third time after Ayan and Maattraan.
The music for the film is by Harris Jayaraj, cinematography by Abhinandan Ramanujam, and MS Prabhu and editing by Anthony.
Suriya is currently also busy with the shoot for Soorarai Pottru directed by Sudha Kongara. Mohanlal has Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham and Empuraan under production.
