Rajinikanth’s ‘Petta’ May Release On January 10

Director Karthik Subbaraj’s Rajinikanth starrer Petta may now release on January 10 in the country. The news is yet to be confirmed. It was earlier speculated that Petta will release on Pongal.

A spokesperson of the film told Silverscreen, “We have not yet confirmed the release date. Talks are on about January 10 or 14. There are many speculations being made out of which only one or two might be true. We ask people not to trust news without confirmation.”

Petta is bankrolled by Sun Pictures. The film stars Rajinikanth, Trisha Krishnan, M Sasikumar, Simran, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Bobby Simha, Megha Akash and Sananth. Music for the film is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.

The film’s promotions began on December 3, with 2 film tracks releasing on that day and the next few days as part of promotions. Last month, shoot for the film wrapped up ahead of schedule. The team is currently working on post production.

The film’s title loosely translates to mean ‘territory’. Rajinikanth might once again play a man who protects a territory or an area, like his roles in Pa Ranjith’s Kaala and Kabali. But from Petta’s trailer and character posters, and from what we know of Karthik Subbaraj’s films in Tamil, this one might be different.

Reports suggest that a lot of the film’s shoot happened in parts of North East, Darjeeling, Shillong, and Uttar Pradesh. As suggested earlier, if the film releases on Pongal 2019, it will lock horns with Ajith Kumar’s Viswasam directed by Siva which also stars Nayanthara as the female lead.
