Director Rajkumar Hirani, who is helming the Sanjay Dutt biopic starring Ranbir Kapoor, will reportedly play himself in the film. Rumours were rife that the director would be playing Subhash Ghai, known for roping in Dutt for several of his movies, and also appearing in a cameo in his films.

According to a Mid-Day report, Hirani’s cameo would be included to make the film appear more authentic. He has already shot for his part.
Incidentally, in an interview from a few years ago, Hirani admitted that he had come to Mumbai to become an actor, but ended up making films.
The biopic is scheduled for a 2018 Eid release. It was initially slated to release in March next year. Apart from Ranbir Kapoor, the biopic will also star Sonam Kapoor, Dia Mirza, Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala and Vicky Kaushal.
