The film marks the sixth collaboration between Mehta and Rao who in the past have delivered critically acclaimed movies like Shahid, Citylights, Aligarh and Omerta. Shahid won the duo National Awards in their respective categories.
“Hansal sir plays a very instrumental role in my acting career. He has created some interesting and memorable characters for me. I trust him blindly,” said Rao about his director.
The actor-director duo has mostly adapted real-life stories for their movies namely – Shahid, Aligarh and Omerta.
About the movie and the actors, Mehta said, “It is a new chapter in my filmography with Raj whose success I see as a vindication of my belief in him. It is also wonderful to be working with Nushrat whose work I’ve followed and liked immensely in the past.”
The film is produced by Luv Ranjan who has worked with Nushrat Barucha on four projects in the past namely – Pyaar Ka Punchnama and its sequel, Akaash Vani and Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety which released this year and went on to become a huge hit.
Nushrat said that she was excited to play a character that hailed from a rural setting. She had earlier shared screen space with Rao in Love Sex Aur Dhoka in 2010. “Over the years, Raj’s journey as an actor has been an inspiring one. He and Hansal sir have a formidable camaraderie and I am super excited to work with them,” said Barucha.
The movie will go on floors by November this year
