Raksha Bandhan will be Pednekar’s second collaboration with Kumar after Toilet: Ek Prem Katha.

Raksha Bandhan was announced in August 2020 and was supposed to release this November. However, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the film was delayed. The film, that reportedly revolves around the brother-sister bond, will be produced by Rai’s Colour Yellow Productions Pvt Ltd in association with Kumar’s Cape Of Good Films and will be presented by his sister Alka Hiranandani and Rai.

A source requesting anonymity told Silverscreen India that the film would on floors in mid-June once the Covid-19 cases in Mumbai is under control and the Hindi film industry members are fully vaccinated.

Talking about the film, Kumar had earlier said in a statement, “Hardly ever in life does one come across a story that touches your heart so deeply and so instantly! It will make you laugh, and it will make you cry. And it will make us realise how blessed are those who have sisters. It makes me happiest that my sister Alka is presenting and producing this film along with ace director Aanand L Rai. Can’t thank him enough for bringing me one of the most special films of my life.”

Kumar and Rai recently collaborated for Atrangi Re, which also stars Dhanush and Sara Ali Khan.

National Award-winning writer Himanshu Sharma, also a frequent collaborator with Rai, has written the story of Raksha Bandhan. Sharma is known for his work in films like Zero, Raanjhanaa, and the Tanu Weds Manu franchise.
