A man fed up of a world he’s grown to be a part of – it’s an age-old trope but that’s what is driving the protagonist of Ranam – according to the trailer that was recently unveiled. There’s also the talk about a mysterious substance by the name of ‘RedX’, which one would have to assume is a drug partly because of the partying scenes that appear whenever it’s mentioned in the trailer.
It’s not just the protagonist, played by Prithviraj, who wants to escape the dreary world they inhabit, but Nandu and Isha Talwar too; in the process handing out the viewer a gauge to help tell the good guys from the bad. This carefully stitched trailer only offers names of two characters and nothing more.
Directed by Nirmal Sahadev, who has assisted Shyamaprasad in the past and also penned the 2018 movie Hey Jude, Ranam also stars Rahman, Ashwin Kumar and Shyamaprasad. Even though Malayalam has had movies like Made in U.S.A, Monsoon Mangoes, Ivide and English with their stories taking place in foreign countries, Ranam with its story set in Detroit could become Malayalam’s first successful crossover film.

A smattering of long shots of Detroit streets and landscapes, bunch of action scenes – some of which were already part of the minute-long teasers that’d come out earlier and scenes suggesting an ongoing police investigation dominate the trailer. The film had been making headlines ever since the launch of its teasers for the slick nature adopted by the makers.
The title track composed by Jakes Bejoy came out in March which was a huge hit. The director had thanked his lead actor Prithviraj for the support provided by him. Prithviraj has batted for better production values.
The trailer of the movie, which was scheduled to release on September 6, came out today morning and was released by Mohanlal on his official Facebook page.
